Austin, TX Dental Office Fire
An Austin woman was severely burned after an accident in a Southwest Austin dental office today. It happened while she was working on a patient at Elite Dentistry in Southwest Austin, Texas off old Fredricksburg Road.
Investigators say it was a scary accident that happened inside the office around 11:30 AM Wednesday (4/08/2009). Witnesses across the street say the woman was in a lot of pain. The 25 year old dental assistant whom firefighters say had her clothes set on fire, was burned across her stomach.
Fire investigators say the technician was refilling an alcohol torch in their facility when the alcohol spilled and ignited in a flash fire.
Nearby business owners say the practice just opened in February. One of the dentists also suffered burns trying to put the fire out, along with another technician. Both were treated and released; the woman is expected to recover.
