Website Review - Boynton Beach Dentist
This is the first in a series of dental website reviews where we take a look at what other dentists are doing. Perhaps by soliciting comments from others, we can help improve current design models and promote ideas to create more people-friendly sites.
Today’s review focuses on a dentist located in Boynton Beach, FL. The image at left shows the website built entirely by dentist Dr. Michael I. Barr to promote his Florida practice to prospective patients online.
Doctor Barr represents a small (yet growing) number of dentists today who actually build, manage and promote their own websites by themselves. To the seasoned Web dev, Dr. Barr’s site, Palm Beach Smiles, at first glance appears rather elementary in design, yet a closer inspection reveals that it has many essential elements of a successful website.
An 8 Year Presence
Registered in 1999, Dr. Barr’s website first appeared on the Internet in early 2000. Gradually over the years he’s added to its total number of pages, included before and after images of real patients and most recently the inclusion of several introduction videos welcoming visitors to his site.
The Importance of Trust
While the doctor’s site in this case is well-positioned in the search engines due to his SEO efforts, the purpose of any dental site is to attract prospective patients and on some level make them feel comfortable about calling to schedule an appointment. Dr. Barr has configured his site to engender this trust early on by personalizing copy in his own hand and using intro videos.
Inspiration For Other Dentists
It should be said that most dentists will probably not have a desire to create their own website, or write their own content. Yet congratulations are in order for Dr. Barr on a job well done — he stands as an example to other dentists who aspire to reach out to the public in their respective local communities.

Building a web presence can definitely help business for dentists. I am also interested in getting my dental website reviewed as well. How would I sign up?

We don’t “sell” dental website reviews — there is no “sign up.” Occasionally we might choose at random a dentist’s site and offer a few comments. Unfortunately I’ve been so busy helping clients, I haven’t had much opportunity to conduct more site reviews. Look forward to some soon.

Thanks for the comment Dennis — took a peek at your website and your building. That has to be the most original dental practice I’ve ever seen! Very unique, very nice.

This is a much needed site. As a profession, we are way behind most people at promoting ourselves - at least we are in the UK.

I agree that building trust is very important when it comes to choosing a dentist. The website is the first impression that one has on your dental practice, and it is important in has all the right elements including a level of trust.

Nowadays to have a website is a huge advantage for any commercial firm. A dentist website is a great idea, I wish my personal dentist would have one. It would be great to read about prices and dental services online. Moreover it is very comfortable. What about Boynton Beach Dentist - as you said, he is an example for all people with this and other professions. Thanks for the great review!
