What’s Most Important When Hiring an SEO?

John,

I’m a dentist practicing in the midwest. What is the single most important thing to consider when hiring an SEO for my website?

A.T.

Good question A.T.

There are several qualifications to consider before you hire an SEO to improve your site’s ranking in the search engines. Above all else, I’d have to say that finding an SEO service that offers you a performance guarantee is essential. In other words, they should provide you with positioning results before you pay.

In the beginning, always ask the company plenty of questions and listen carefully for any reluctance to answer them. Ensure too that the rankings promised for your dental website will represent its most competitive, or your most beneficial keyword phrases.

You’ll want to also make sure the SEO company isn’t using blackhat SEO techniques that could get your website in trouble with the search engines.

There are so many scam “SEO” programs out there! They may charge you hundreds and even thousands of dollars a month to perform a few very basic tasks. Then there are others that may take time to build, but will last long beyond the time period you have paid for. Look for a company that considers on-site and off-site SEO tactics. Also, make sure to look for testimonials and don’t be afraid to contact their previous users to verify their validity. Also ask them exactly what they will be doing on a monthly basis to maintain your online reputation and SEO. These questions will help you spot a scam and spend your marketing dollars wisely.
